Author Interview- Save My Heart by Kristi Jun #RomanticSuspense #Thriller

What’s your one-line pitch or teaser for the book? Grab a reader’s attention with one line.

Erin Brockovich meets Jack Reacher in this thrilling page turner, SAVE MY HEART.

Tell readers a little about your main character or characters?

The two main characters are Jodi Lamont and Jack Lawson.

Jodi considers herself very average. She is broke, working at a Portland bookstore and trying to live a quiet life after losing her parents. In the beginning of the books, she is very lost as to what she wants to do with the rest of her life.

In many ways, all she wants isa connection and a sense of belonging, but has difficult time trusting people because she’s lost so much. But underneath all this, she has a big heart that just wants to be loved.

Jack is very much an alpha. He is a detective with the Maine State Police. He is capable and knows exactly what he wants. So much so that he is willing to abandon those that love him to get it. He is stubborn and determined. When he meets Jodi, though, something in him awakens and it’s not a good thing because it puts a kink in his plans.

Where do you like to write? Do you have an office or writing nook?

I like to write in my office. If I need a change in scenery, I either go to my favorite café or write in my kitchen.

I cannot write with people around me or with noises, so when I am at a café, I wear my ear buds and listen to my writing music.

If I am editing and really need to focus, I closed my office door with the sign, “DO NOT ENTER” and edit that way.

What is one of your best marketing tips for other authors?

I can write a master’s thesis on this.

Well, my best marketing tips is connecting with readers by whatever means possible. Whether you are on Goodreads, Facebook, IG, TikToc, Amazon, Bookbub, or your newsletter subscribers, do it well. Learn everything you can about the platform and make sure it works for you by looking at your data.

What websites or tools have you found that offer the best results?

Newsletter is a great tool to connect with the reader. You can do this by having them sign up on your website or have them subscribe by giving away a free book vis Bookfunnel or Prolificworks—this is what I do often.

Any advice for aspiring writers?

WRITE!

If you don’t have a book, you can’t pitch, or submit to agents and editors. If you choose to be an Indie author, you need a book that is clean and edited by professionals. You can’t do any of this without a book. If you don’t have a book, you can’t get published, you can’t market and you won’t make sales.

So, write and don’t just edit the first few chapters over and over again. I learned this the hard way, and I lost opportunities at conferences because I didn’t have the book that was ready.

Write the book. Then go back and edit. Get the story out. I write very organically. It’s a mess. I skip chapters if I get stuck and go back to it when I can. This is how I write fast.

Some writer I know plot out the entire book, some just write out the synopsis, and some start with a blank page (I have done this). You won’t know what kind of writer you are unless you write. I tried all the above and figured it out how I write by writing as much as I can (if not every day). If you only have half an hour, do it. Whatever you can get, use it to write.

It’s not easy. But if you want to be published, you have to sit your butt down and just get the words out. You can always edit when it’s done.

Also, if you want to make a living by writing, you have to write as many books as you can in a year. It’s very competitive but very doable. There are a ton of support and communities out there. Reach out, ask for help. Writers have big hearts and most of them are willing to lend a hand.

That’s it!

Thanks again for having me on today :)
